Muse put family first

Muse have been working ‘regular office hours’ on their new album so they can get home and ‘spend time with kids. The British rock band are busy perfecting their sixth studio record ‘ a follow-up to their multi-million selling album, The Resistance (2009).

Muse, comprising of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Howard, are family orientated and have planned their working hours around their partners and children. Matt has five month-old son Bingham with fiancée Kate Hudson, while Chris has five children (and one more on the way) with his wife Kelly.

“[We want to] go home every night and spend the evening with the kids” Chris told Kerrang! magazine. “The plan was always get into the studio and start writing and see what happens. I don’t think there’s any master plan, we just put out heads together and see where it takes us.”

Chris is unsure what direction the band is going to take with their new sound. The bassist wants to keep himself open to a wealth of ideas.

“[The band] feel like we are drawing a line under a certain period of what we’ve done in our career, it feels like it’s time to move on and do something radically different” he explained. “But then you could get into the studio and go back to what you’re comfortable with. You get in the studio and there’s a natural process and you have to see where a song will take you.”

Muse’s new LP will be their sixth studio album and is due to be released in late 2012. The band have not given any details on who will be acting as producer for the record as yet.

  1. It looks like they don’t enjoy the process of recording a new stuff any more.Muse do it because they HAVE to do it.:-((

    • They don’t enjoy recording anymore because they put their families first? Or because they don’t have it all planned out ahead of time? I think you’re jumping to conclusions.

I’m sure they don’t *have* to record at all these days, with all the money they’ve already made on their “multi-million selling” albums. Or at the very least, they don’t have to do so much so fast. They just finished their official tour earlier this year and then continued to perform sporadically until late August. Those aren’t acts of necessity.

I’m not saying you’ll like whatever direction Muse head in next; I’m just saying they’ll head that way because they want to. And you can’t expect truly creative, talented people to keep churning out the same kind of material album after album. Of course they’re going to try new things. If they didn’t, *then* they’d get tired of it!

  2. If you´re a creative person you need a time out now and then. As a creative person myself I know that sometimes at 5 o´clock you can´t see the work anymore even if that what you do is your hobby…I think of it that way: They spend their evenings with their family ->are more relaxed, are happier and put out better music…

    • I must fully agree with you. I’m in the middle of writing a script, my friends are angry, because I don’t care about deadlines, but sometimes I need more time and space to think. I perfectly understand how creativity works. Sometimes best ideas come to our minds when we don’t expect it. They also need some time to make something amazing as they’ve been doing through years. I believe it’ll be next masterpiece.

    • I’m not too sure if they will put out better music when happy – I’m not begrudging them their happiness, but I love their angsty stuff the most! Like Robin said, we’ll see!

  3. I’m not sure what to think .. I guess we’ll see :p

  4. I’m sure that they enjoy their 9 to 5 routine much more than most of us. Radically different is interesting maybe Chris will sing a bit more.

  5. Phyllis Cancilla Says:

I think NME is quoting from a Kerrang! interview from their new issue. Apparently they interviewed Chris. He seems to be the new voice of Muse. Now that he’s come out of the alcoholic haze that he says he was in for years, he turns out to be very articulate.

  6. I think Chris decided that it’s time to talk moar!
I don’t think that spending time with their families means that they’re bored of recording or that they just Have to record the new album. It’s just something they wanna do and their families are something they need ’cause, despite what some people think, they’re not gods, they’re humans.

I think the new album’s gonna be great like the previous ones.I love it when they are trying to go to a different direction and they don’t know what they are actually doing. Then the music is more amazing!
