These are from the special edition NME Awards 2011 Magazine. I’ve got to say, Dave Grohl looks fantastic; I can’t wait to get my hands on the new Foos album!

Matt Bellamy and Dave Grohl have been mates for yonks. NME was happy to reunite them…
NME: How long have you been friends?
Matt: Well, our first American tour was opening up for Foo Fighters. And we were working it out before; I think it was about 12 years ago.
Dave: Yeah. Long time.
Matt: (To Dave): That was just an immensely exciting time for us, going out there, playing arenas for the first time, getting to see you guys play…
Dave: Yeah! That tour was the first time that we’d really played arenas, so we were debating about what sort of stage set-up we should have. Somebody said ‘Let’s have it set up like the cover of Queen’s “Live Killers”.’ So there were banks of lights pointed right at the audience, we called it the Pizza Oven. Great fun, it went on for fucking ever!
Matt: It was a great tour. We played a gig in Dave’s hometown, do you remember? And it was absolute pandemonium. The kids were crushing each other, and it almost had to be called off.
Dave: You know who came out and told the kids to calm down? My Mom.
NME: So it’s safe to say you’re a fan of this year’s Godlike Genius?
Matt: I’d say this guy is the most influential rock drummer of my generation. The last two or three generations, in fact. I’m very happy he’s getting the award.
Dave (Pulling out $40): Here you go Matt, I’ve only got American, I’m sorry!
