Muse – Pre-Festival Interview with Dom Howard (Norway, June 29th 2010)
Translation:
Each time Muse go on stage, it is to achieve their best performance ever. This summer’s concerts in Norway is no exception, says the drummer Dominic Howard. He can hardly wait.
“The English trio has been around for around 16 years, but is fairly fresh in the elite division. Once they were out of himself Wembley two nights in 2007, they were definitely there. To draw 160,000 fans to the concert is a lot, even in London.
Dominic Howard’s colleagues are phantom guitar and vocalist Matthew Bellamy and bassist Christopher Wolstenholme . Tuesday 29 June, they play at Hove Festival, Friday 23 July on Koengen in Bergen.
Together, the three visited Norway successfully in the past.
Never the same
- There have been so many lives. What I know is that Norway is a fine country to play in. The girls are great , the crowd gives them correctly over when we play . It likes us well. It will be interesting to see if I remember what it was last when I come back this summer, “said Howard.
It promises a violent show, and stresses that the band never do just two concerts.
- We are working intensively to push our own limits, and changes us all the time. No concert is the same. So when we come to you, we give everything for the audience to have a great time . I’m really looking forward to meeting all ” crazy ” Norwegian rock fans, “said Dominic Howard.
- Many people say that you will take over the throne after bands like U2 and the Rolling Stones. How does it feel ?
- It is both weird and wrong, yet very flattering. We’re talking about real legends. Although we have met both sold out at Wembley and other giant arenas, we can not be compared with the bands. They have lifted the live concert to an outrageously high level, and they are of course great models for us, says Hayward.
He will therefore not be placed in the same category as those two giants, but he thinks it is great to be in concert with them.
It’s very inspiring to see that they still make great music, huge show and still love what they ‘re doing. I really hope that we can also enjoy as much as we do now about 20 years. There must be a goal that we set just love to play concerts and to make new music when we were doing this in a couple of decades to.
- You do not have as many years behind you as stadium band. How it feel to have come there?
- Before the breakthrough at Wembley in 2007 , we were headline in many festivals in Europe, and the record sales were good. But stadium concerts were something else, when we were alone. We were unsure if we should take a chance that we could manage Wembley, but we chose to do it, “he said.
New era
- Fortunately, we sold out both evenings. It was just totally insane to see the crazy crowd that had come to listen to us, and we felt that we did our best performances for when these two evenings. It was the start of a new era for us. Where and when we realized that we had to seize the opportunity – and then we’ll see where the future takes us.
Bet all
Dominic Howard is very concerned that the band must push themselves to the utmost. Always. This is about stretching your own boundaries to preserve creates power, “he said.
- Every time we go on stage or in the studio, it is to perform the best we ‘ve ever done. For us it’s always about that. We must seek out the limits of what we are able to do our things in new ways. Only then can we develop ourselves as musicians and bands, just so we can continue to be creative and innovative. Therefore, it is always a goal that the next time the concert will be totally different. We must keep the energy and impatience up if we are able to stay on as long as the bands you compared us with, “he said, adding :
- And remember, there are many years before we are there …”
